about this site:
This is an evolving collection of thoughts and creations, my own and others, that explore areas of design through lenses of emotion, social justice, and thermodynamics - all key ingredients of humanity.
about the author:
I am an architect and learning environment planner, meaning I focus my design efforts on schools and places of learning, as well as an advocate for issues of social justice. In particular, I am fascinated by and passionate about exploring different perspectives and their influence on design and effecting positive outcomes, in particular our vital and inseparable connection to nature.
I reside near the mid-point of the setting sun side of Turtle island on the shore of the Saliish Sea, on the traditional and unceded lands of the Duwamish, Suquamish, and Muckleshoot peoples, to whom we owe a great deal and from whom we have much to learn about stewardship of what has been their home since time immemorial.
From another perspective, I reside in West Seattle, Washington , United States, approximately 140 km / 80 miles south of where I was born and grew up in Victoria, BC, Canada.
I have lived here since 2005, having previously lived and worked in Dallas, Texas; Vancouver, BC; and London, UK.
Most of my architectural career has focused on community, cultural, and educational projects. I am co-chair of a Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee with the Association for Learning Environments and a member of similar social justice bodies within the realm of architecture.
